Immune System HEALTH BENEFITS OF PANAXOLYDE®

PANAXOLYDE® polysaccharides are composed of acidic polysaccharides: the most biologically active and structurally related to pectin (I,II). These bioactive compounds are able to bind to immune cells, macrophage regulating their response and stimulating the release o specific chemical mediators (III,IV). The activation of macrophages leads the release of specific cytokines, such as IL-6, IL-12 and INF-γ: protective effect against the influenza viral infection (V)

Ginsenosides have been shown a preventive action against a variety of inflammatory diseases. The are expected to regulated inflammatory responses primarily through the inhibition of the NF-kB signaling pathway. Ginsenosides suppress the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1B and IL-6, as well as inflammatory enzymes, such as iNOS and COX-2 (VI,VII)

GP - Influenza virus.png

Effects of ginseng polysaccharide (GP) on the growth of influenza virus in vitro.

  1. Effects of ginseng polysaccharide on influenza A/PR8 virus. A diluted influenza A/PR8 virus was mixed with different concentrations of GP (0, 500,1000 mg/mL) and cultured for 3 days.
  2. Effects of ginseng polysaccharide on 2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza A/California/2009 virus. A diluted influenza A/California/2009 virus was mixed with different concentrations of GP (0, 100, 200 mg/mL) and cultured for 5 days.

The growth of viruses (A/PR8 virus, A/California/2009 virus) was determined by hemagglutination activity using chicken red blood cells, and presented as percentages compared to the controls (the wells without GP).
