Griffonia (Griffonia simplicifolia (DC.)Baill.),originally from central-western Africa, is an evergreen plant belonging to the Fabaceae family.
The plant is used in the treatment of anxiety and depression, insomnia, migraine and headache, as well as in regulating appetite.


  The most active bioactive compound in Griffonia is 5-HTP, a naturally occurring amino acid and chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin.
This compound contributes to increasing the bioavailability of serotonin in the body thus contributing to proper neuronal and bodily functioning.
Low serotonin levels are associated with weight gain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches and other neurological disorders.
